I'm in the midst of brainstorming for the design development phase and thinking hard about pattern and light. I feel that my design for the restaurant needs something more. Looking at the design feedback I received from one of our IARc alumni, I want to think of creative ways to use the "lock + key" concept in the actual architecture. I'm thinking of a pattern that has a traditional key-hole shape worked into it - it could be pierced into metal panels for the accessibility ramp railing as well as the bottom of the balcony perhaps.
Chris (my husband) also suggested adding an 'e' to the end of "lock" and using the philosopher John Locke as an extra dose of inspiration in the theme of the restaurant. The thought being that my restaurant is this center of the neighborhood - a place for people to come and share ideas.
